5 Things to Know About the iOS 10.3.2 Update

5 Things to Know About the iOS 10.3.2 Update

The iOS 10.3.2 update for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch is now the most up-to-date version of iOS 10. This guide will walk you through the most important things to know about the iOS 10.3.2 update and some of its problems. We’ll also tell you about how it performs on the iPhone and iPad.

The company’s latest version of iOS 10 isn’t a big milestone upgrade but, iOS 10.3.2 is still a very important release thanks to the bug fixes and security patches on board.

The iOS 10.3.2 could have a positive impact on your device’s performance. It could also cause problems if you aren’t careful.

With that in mind, we want to go over the most important things you need to know about the iOS 10.3.2 update for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

Let’s start with a basic look at iOS 10.3.2’s performance on five popular iPhone variants and four versions of Apple’s iPad.

iOS 10.3.2 Review

The iOS 10.3.2 update might be a maintenance release but the download is close to 200MB for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. That’s if you’re coming directly from iOS 10.3.1.

If you’re coming to iOS 10.3.2 from something a little older, say iOS 10.2.1, you can expect your download to be much larger.

The download only took us a few seconds (we downloaded the update while connected to a high-speed Wi-Fi network) but the installation took about seven minutes on the iPhone 7. It’ll take a lot longer if you skipped iOS 10.3 and/or iOS 10.3.1.

We recommend putting 15 minutes aside so that you can monitor both the iOS 10.3.2 download and installation.

We’ve spent a full week with the iOS 10.3.2 update but it appears to be stable on the iPhone 7, iPhone 6, iPhone 5s, and iPhone 5.

We haven’t noticed any freaky battery drain and we’ve been able to connect to various Wi-Fi networks and Bluetooth devices. AT&T’s LTE and 4G networks are also working properly.

Core applications like Gmail, Slack, Asana, Twitter, Spotify, Soundcloud, and Google Chrome are also functioning as normal with iOS 10.3.2 on board.

We haven’t noticed any random reboots or UI lag nor have run into any debilitating bugs. That could change down the road but for now, iOS 10.3.2 feels stable on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 5.

If you need additional feedback about iOS 10.3.2 and its changes, take a look at our reasons to, and not to, install the iOS 10.3.2 update on your device right now. It should help you one to one side of the fence or the other.

iOS 10.3.2 Update: What’s New

All signs pointed to a small maintenance release and that’s exactly what iOS 10.3.2 is. It fixes some bugs and it improves device security.

iOS 10.3.2’s change log is pretty thin. We know the update fixes some problems with SiriKit car commands. We also know that it brings 23 security patches to beef up security on the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

It doesn’t come with much else, unless of course you decided to skip Apple’s iOS 10.3.1 update and/or its iOS 10.3 update.

If you skipped either one of those, iOS 10.3.2 will bring changes from those updates to your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.

iOS 10.3.1 was a small bug fixer but the company’s iOS 10.3 update delivered a new file system, a Find My AirPods features, and a long list of other changes.

Make sure you get familiar with those before you download iOS 10.3.2.

iOS 10.3.2 Problems

iOS 10.3.2 went through a six week beta process but problems have slipped into the final version.

We’ve seen complaints about installation problems (some of these issues come from people moving off the iOS 10.3.2 beta), weird battery drain, connectivity issues, and bad performance including lag and random reboots.

It’s still early so we expect complaints about iOS 10.3.2 problems to pickup as we push away from the update’s release date.

If you’re struggling with iOS 10.3.2 problems, please take a look at our list of fixes for the most common iOS 10 problems. You’ll also want to take a look at our tips to improve iOS 10 performance.

If your situation is dire you might try dropping down to the iOS 10.3.1 update in an effort to improve your device’s performance.

Apple continues to sign off on iOS 10.3.1 though the loophole could close any day now. The company won’t announce when it will stop signing off on iOS 10.3.1 so you’ll need to move quickly if you want to downgrade.

Sadly, you can’t drop back down to anything older than the iOS 10.3.1 update. The iOS 10.3 and iOS 10.2.1 downgrade paths are now closed.

For more on the downgrade process, see our iOS 10 downgrade walkthrough.

iOS 10.3.2 Jailbreak

Jailbreak developers recently demonstrated an iOS 10.3.1 jailbreak. The proof of concept, which can be seen in the video below, is a great sign for those looking to jailbreak iOS 10.3.1.

Unfortunately, we haven’t seen or heard anything about an iOS 10.3.2 jailbreak release for iPhone and iPad.

iOS 10.3.1 jailbreak release rumors pointed to a release sometime after the release of iOS 10.3.2 but nothing’s been released yet.

For now, current and prospective iOS 10 jailbreak users must contend with the public iOS 10.2 jailbreak tool.

What’s Next

Apple’s already launched a new version of iOS 10.

The iOS 10.3.3 update is confirmed for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch and it’s currently in beta ahead of an unknown release date.

The iOS 10.3.3 update, like iOS 10.3.2, appears to be a maintenance release focused on under-the-hood improvements and security.

The first iOS 10.3.3 beta also includes some new iPad Pro wallpapers which could be a hint at new products to come. Apple is rumored to have new iPads in store for its annual developer conference (WWDC) in June.

We expect the iOS 10.3.3 to stay in beta for a few more days (at least) while Apple engineers and beta testers poke and prod it for issues.

Apple’s iOS 10.3.3 update isn’t the only iOS update on the horizon.

The company will deliver its WWDC 2017 keynote on the morning of June 5th and it’s there we’ll probably hear about iOS 10’s successor.

iOS 11 isn’t confirmed but there’s a good chance we’ll hear about some of its features, its release date, and a beta on stage during the keynote.

Apple typically releases the first beta shortly after the conclusion of its keynote so we’re expecting an iOS 11 beta to arrive on June 5th.
