We’ve spent a full week with the iOS 11 update and today we want to outline a few reasons why you should, and shouldn’t be excited about Apple’s next operating system.
The iOS 11 beta is an early version of iOS 11 but it’s packed with new features, tweaks, and enhancements for select iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch models.
Some features, like the changes to Control Center, Siri, and stock apps like Podcasts and Apple Music are plain to see. Others, like an exciting change to the volume HUD and a change to the double tap function on AirPods, aren’t as obvious.
We’ve spent limited time with iOS 11 but we’re already feeling pretty excited about the next beta and its official release later on this year.
Excitement is in the air but we’d be lying if we told you Apple’s iOS 11 release will please everyone. The iOS 11 update is shaping up to be an exciting release for many iOS 10, there are also a few things that we, and plenty of others, aren’t too happy about.
With that in mind, we want to take an early look at what has us the most excited, and the most disappointed, about the iOS 11 update and its release.

For years we’ve been begging Apple to make a simple change to iOS’ volume slider. The current version, which you can see in the screenshot here, pops up in the middle of videos playing in the native video player. It’s intrusive and it’s extremely annoying. Well, someone at Apple finally listened to us (and many others) because the iOS 11 update does away with the horrible design. In its place is a simplified volume slider that appears in the top right corner of the screen. You can take a look at it in action right here. It’s not perfect but it’s much better than looking at a giant rectangle block everything going on in the middle of the screen. |
